Privacy Policy

Draft template — not yet reviewed by a solicitor. This is a reasonable, accurate starting point covering how Brightwork actually handles data today, but it hasn't been checked by a solicitor against UK GDPR in detail. Have it reviewed before relying on it as your final policy, and register with the ICO if you haven't already (ico.org.uk/fee-checker).

1. Who we are

Brightwork Yacht Care Ltd ("Brightwork", "we", "us") is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. We provide yacht valeting, detailing and maintenance services in Poole, Dorset, UK.

2. What we collect

When you make an enquiry, book a visit, or create an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and details about your yacht (name, make/model, length, marina and berth). If you pay us online, our payment provider, Stripe, collects your card details directly — we never see or store your full card number ourselves.

3. Why we collect it

We use this information to provide quotes, schedule and carry out work, process payments, and communicate with you about your bookings and membership. Our lawful basis is that this processing is necessary to perform our contract with you, or to take steps at your request before entering into one.

4. Who we share it with

We use Google Firebase to host our website's accounts, job records, and photos, and Stripe to process payments. Both act as data processors on our behalf under their own data protection agreements — we don't sell or share your information with anyone else for marketing purposes.

5. How long we keep it

We keep customer and job records for as long as you have an active account or membership with us, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet our accounting and legal obligations. You can ask us to delete your data at any time, subject to what we're legally required to retain.

6. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and ask for a copy in a portable format. To make a request, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data.

7. Cookies and local storage

Our website uses strictly necessary browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember access to the site — nothing here is used for advertising or tracking, and no consent banner is required for it under UK cookie law. [Update this section if you ever add analytics or marketing tools such as Google Analytics.]

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date at the top.
